A red carpet appearance by Blake Lively is always something to look forward to, so it was sad news last night when the actress announced she wouldn't be attending the Met Gala this year.
At Tiffany & Co.'s Fifth Avenue reopening party in New York on Thursday night, People Lively asked if fans will see her on the carpet at fashion's biggest night. "You won't," she said. "But I will watch."
The interviewer then gushed about the actress' 2022 Met Gala casting, to which Lively replied, "Thank you, that's so cute. I wear it on my couch on Mondays.
The Gossip Girl alum hasn't explained why she'll be tuning in from her couch on May 1, but it's no big surprise she's staying home, as she and hubby Ryan Reynolds recently welcomed their fourth child.
The It Hollywood couple have become red carpet royalty over the years thanks to their stunning coordinated ensembles. For the 2022 Met Gala, Lively took on the theme of golden glam by channeling the Statue of Liberty. She arrived in a shimmering rose gold Atelier Versace dress that featured a layered puffy train that then unfolded into a cascading teal train (a reflection of the statue's changing color over the years). Reynolds, on the other hand, looked dapper next to his wife in a dark brown velvet tuxedo by Ralph Lauren.
And at the 2021 Met Gala, her second Met Gala appearance, Lively and Reynolds wore coordinating blue ensembles in keeping with the evening's theme, "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between." Lively looked like a goddess in a shimmering gold long-sleeved ruched dress by Atelier Versace with blue feather detailing on the train. Meanwhile, Reynolds wore a dark blue tuxedo paired with a blue velvet bow tie to match Lively's tail.

Lively is also known for being her own stylist and has been creating her own Met Gala looks for the past few years. In March 2018, Lively spoke to WWD about creating her Met Gala outfit for that year. "I sent my dress to Lorraine Schwartz and Christian Louboutin and said, 'Okay, let's do something special,'" she recalled. “They are doing something useful for that. It's good because I have a lot of artists around me with whom I have a direct relationship. It's kind of a group work with that. I trust people doing it for a living instead of outsourcing it to someone else."
