The next time you unpack after a trip, remove the stickers from your luggage too.
London International Airport, Ontario (ONT) California posted a video on TikTok late last month showing a man who appears to work at the airport warning travelers that attaching old tags to checked bags could cause problems.
"Come on. Let's say you flew to the United States and, a month later, to the Southwest." Well, there's a little sticker that says 'American' that tells the computer to go there," he said in the video, pointing across the room.
If the sticker from that American flight is still on your bag, it could be scanned and sent to the wrong place. “You could land there and not get on the plane,” he said.
The video had garnered more than 465,000 views as of Tuesday on Aug. 22. The NTA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The probability of old labels causing problems when checking for a letter “n,” “It's not very high, but it's not zero,” said Scott Keyes, founder of Going.
"There are none. "Any resulting risk of confusion, however small, outweighs any non-existent benefit."
Although luggage may be handled incorrectly for a variety of reasons, he added that most mixed baggage occurs when changing trains. These routes involve moving checked baggage from one plane to another in a short period of time. "Most of the time everything goes smoothly, but even a small mistake (like an old luggage tag ruining a baggage sorting machine) can cause problems," he said.
