Today on the death of All-Star forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, the Columbus Blue Jackets sent the following comment.
"This terrible catastrophe shocks and saddens The Columbus Blue Jackets. Johnny was more importantly a loving spouse, father, son, brother, and friend than he was a brilliant hockey player. On the unexpected death of Johnny and Matthew, we sincerely condolences with his wife, Meredith, his children, Noa and Johnny, his parents, their relatives and friends.
Everyone who saw Johnny on the rink felt his immense enjoyment in playing the game. From Boston College to the Calgary Flames to Team USA to the Blue Jackets, he carried a real passion of hockey with him everywhere he performed. He delighted viewers in a way only Johnny Hockey could have. Though his influence on our sport and our company was significant, it is nothing compared to the lifelong imprint he left on everyone who knew him. When Johnny arrived two years ago, he embraced our neighborhood; Columbus greeted him warmly. We shall sorely mourn him and do all in our power to help his family and one another through this tragedy.
"At this time, we ask for prayers for the Gaudreau family and that their privacy be respected as they grieve.”
