Stepping out of Westminster Abbey with her fiancé Prince Harry for her first official service alongside Queen Elizabeth on Monday, Meghan Markle's $1,000 white coat by British designer Amanda Wakeley caught everyone's eye.
Along with the rest of her enviable wardrobe, including the Sentaler coat she wore at Christmas and jeans by designer Hiut Welsh, Meghan's chic style comes at a high price.
And it's all being paid for out of pocket at the moment, by Harry and Meghan, PEOPLE understand. Members of the Royal Family do not accept free designer clothes.
While contestants like Natasha Archer, who works for Kate Middleton, ask designers for different choices, the others are returned after an outfit has been chosen and the one worn is paid for.
Following her wedding to Harry on May 19 at St George's Chapel in Windsor, Meghan's clothing budget for official outings will be covered by money given by Prince Charles to Prince William, Kate and Harry from around 28 million dollars in revenue from his Duchy of Cornwall.
Last year, the trio received the expenses necessary for their public life (salaries and office expenses and other expenses) from a fund of 4.8 million dollars. (This part of Charles' official expenses also covers other aspects of his accounts, such as certain capital expenditures.)
The incredible price tag of $78,000 for the Ralph & Russo dress Meghan wore in their engagement portraits sparked much debate when the photos were released in December.
Meghan, 36, was reported to be earning around $50,000 per episode at the end of her seven-year stint on Suits.
According to Money, Harry's net worth is conservatively estimated at around $25 million. After Princess Diana died in Paris in 1997, Harry and William split $20 million from their mother's will. The money was invested in a trust which they could not touch until they were 30 years old.

Some experts said Harry also received more than William from his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, who died in 2002. The reason? He knew he would not inherit the vast Duchy of Cornwall, which would instead pass to William when his father Prince Charles ascended the throne.
Meanwhile, fashion experts say Meghan's stylish look has evolved in recent months.
"It's gotten more sophisticated and the hemlines are noticeably longer," says British style guru Hilary Alexander.
Bojana Sentaler, founder and designer of luxury outerwear brand Sentaler, which Meghan wears a lot (she owns at least five of her alpaca coats), says: "You can pull off a casual look as easily as a suit. formal." Get dressed. I think people like to see variety in their clothing choices." Alexander adds, "She's very aware that clothes are photogenic, which is one of the smart things about her clothes."
