The 2025 Golden Globe Awards nominees were revealed Monday morning by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut, who also provided a sneak peek at the next awards season by revealing the names of the candidates in each of the ceremony's 27 categories. The announcement of ten of the nominations was made exclusively on "CBS Mornings."
With ten nominations for acting, directing, screenplay, and music, "Emilia Pérez," a musical crime-thriller directed by Jacques Audiard and starring Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez, is the most nominated film for the Golden Globes this year. Then came "The Brutalist," which received seven nominations, and "Conclave," which received six.
Five nods apiece went to the indie rom-com "Anora" and the popular body horror parody "The Substance" starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley.
Hulu's "The Bear," "Only Murders in the Building," and "Shōgun" were the top picks for television. The other two shows each received four nominations, but "The Bear" received five.
The news concluded a successful year for both movies and television. "Inside Out 2" overtook "Frozen 2" as the highest-grossing animated movie of all time throughout the summer. While "Wicked" and "Gladiator II" fought for ticket sales, Disney's "Moana 2" recently broke the Thanksgiving box office record.
"Barbie" and "Succession" were the front-runners in 2024, sharing nine nominations apiece, while "Oppenheimer" received eight.
The Golden Globes will be streamed on Paramount+ and broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, January 5 at 8 p.m. ET, with Nikki Glaser serving as the first female host. Glaser described the chance as both "thrilling" and "scary," but she claimed she was up to the task.
"I'm really grateful for this job. So far, it's the apex of my career. Being able to host the Globes is my ultimate goal! Glaser told GoldenGlobes.com, "I hope I get to do it again."
