Welcome to our product spotlight series, where we look into the major features and advantages of some of our most popular skincare products. In this session, we’ll be taking a closer look with the Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner that became a viral success on TikTok.

What is Glycolic Acid?

glycolic acid before and after

Glycolic Acid is a form of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that’s commonly generated from sugar cane. AHAs are water-loving acids that assist to exfoliate the skin’s outer layer to smooth and brighten the skin’s look. In this technique, they can address uneven tone and textural imperfections.

What’s distinctive about Glycolic Acid is that it is a tiny molecule - of all exfoliating acids contained in our formulations, it has the lowest molecular weight of AHAs meaning it gives a highly effective transport of the molecule. It helps assist the natural skin regeneration process by encouraging the exfoliation of the skin's surface to produce a smoother, more even-toned look.

How To Integrate The Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner Into Your Beauty Regimen

  • Our Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner is advised for nighttime usage because it is an exfoliant. All exfoliators might make your skin more vulnerable to UV rays and so it is necessary to use sunscreen in the morning to protect your newly exfoliated skin.

  • As part of the Treat stage, the Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner would be administered after washing to dry skin. We would recommend using a moderate cleanser without any strong actives such as our Glucoside Foaming Cleanser. You may put the solution straight into your palm or use a washable cotton pad to swipe around the skin avoiding the eye region.

  • Light stinging and minor redness might occur, especially if this is your first time using a chemical exfoliator. This should go away in a few minutes, but please note that this is not a measure of efficacy. More annoyance does not imply better outcomes. You know your skin best and if you feel any irritation, rinse off.

  • Though light enough for regular usage, we normally recommend to exfoliate once or twice a week. Over-exfoliating can disrupt the skin barrier, which can lead to redness, irritation, or breakouts.

  • Once the product has been absorbed into the skin, you may follow with a moisturizing serum such as Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 or a rich moisturizer such as Natural Moisturizing Factors + PhytoCeramides.

  • In the mornings, always remember to apply SPF.

How To Integrate The Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner Into Your Haircare Regimen

  • You may have spotted our Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner all over Tik Tok for use on the scalp. Why you may wonder? Through clinical research we were able to establish that our Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner helps to rebalance the scalp and alleviate dryness, while giving moisture.

  • To apply on the scalp, tilt your head back and use the nozzle to gently pour the product from the front to the rear of the head in a sweeping motion. Apply to a dry scalp and massage thoroughly. This can be done 3 times per week as a leave-on treatment.

  • To flesh out the remainder of your haircare regimen, you may explore our other haircare products such the Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair and Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner that were developed to include everything your hair needs, and nothing it doesn’t.

Things To Avoid When Taking Glycolic Acid

  • Because Glycolic Acid exfoliates the top layer of the skin, we would recommend avoiding any other products that also encourage skin cell turnover. This might comprise chemicals such as Retinoids and Copper Peptides. Combining various resurfacing solutions may raise the likelihood of developing skin sensitivity. If you prefer to integrate both items into your regimen, we recommend using them on alternate days or nights.

  • What about Vitamin C? Ideally, we would not propose using direct or ethylated Vitamin C (such our Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution or Vitamin C 23% Suspension + HA Spheres 2%) at the same time as our Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner since again this might enhance the risk of skin reactions.

  • However, people accustomed to exfoliating with acids may have a higher skin tolerance and can use both Glycolic Acid and vitamin C together. If you do choose to mix them, we would recommend applying them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has acclimated before introducing both together.

  • Now that you know all that there is to about our Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner, feel free to give it a try. Or you may consider trying The Bright Set which accompanies Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner also includes Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution and Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG for a more radiant skin. If you’re still unclear of what your skin requires, try our Regimen Builder.
