Authorities are still looking into the specifics of Payne's death.

But according to a statement from the Buenos Aires police, Payne passed away after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony. The musician "had jumped from the balcony of his room," said to Pablo Policicchio, the Buenos Aires Security Ministry's head of communications, who spoke with the Associated Press.

An "aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol" was the subject of a complaint that police received just after 5 p.m. local time, Policicchio said the site.

Authorities were notified by the hotel management about the presence of "a guest who is overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol."

According to phone recording that the Associated Press was able to get, the manager stated, "He's destroying the entire room and, well, we need you to send someone, please."
