Military families are the only group that know how to celebrate patriotic holidays with flair and panache if ever such a group exists. These are OUR holidays not merely national ones. Memorial Day and Veterans Day are both serious events sometimes misinterpreted by our amiable civilian neighbors. It's difficult to do the 4th of July wrong though; everyone may enjoy the celebration of our country's birthday.
Organize your own blue, red, white decorative explosion. Given the way we wrap it in banners, bunting, and flags, you would think a flag had gone and dropped on my house. We enjoy decorating our house in patriotic hues so that our love for America cannot be misinterpreted.
2. See a real explosion here. We were college friends and I thought my husband was quite, quite irritating before I became aware of how gorgeous and brilliant he is. The reason is... He loved fireworks to the extent where "blowing stuff up" was about all he spoke of. And thus you may picture the commitment he has for fireworks over the July 4th celebration. boom! Furthermore, his military experience does not seem to have made him reluctant of this one.
3. See the fireworks on the National Mall. Every year when I lived in D.C., my custom was watching the National Mall fireworks. And I'm not obliged to miss them just because I live far away anymore. PBS carries these live, and they're very entertaining. Here get other details about that. PBS is the ideal way for fuddy-duddy like me who doesn't much enjoy leaving her house after 8 p.m. to simultaneously see fireworks and wear her pajamas.
4. Eat national pride pie. Pie is the one item my husband is more committed to than fireworks. Our son was delighted to pieces by the fact that his birth fell on "pi day," 3.14. Basically, every holiday is a justification for eating pie. Cooking pies with blue or red fruit filling and then presenting one slice of each beside white, vanilla ice cream is quite enjoyable, though. Yums. And if pie is not your taste, you may still enjoy patriotic delicacies; here is a fantastic patriotic cheesecake recipe.
5. Cook anything on a grill. Though it sounds cliche, without a nice old American BBQ, what would the 4th be? Writing this makes me somewhat hungry.
Start a yearly Independence Day film festival. Will Smith is essentially the Dean of Summer Movies, hence it makes logical that you would celebrate everyone's preferred summer holiday by seeing a movie with him. "Independence Day," whoever? Although my family does not have this enjoyable 4th of July custom, it seems to be really successful with a close buddy. Try it right now!
7. Attend a march. Every year, regardless of the weather, our small town hosted a dinky little procession for everyone and their mother. We got front row real estate to what I felt was the best parade ever since I counted one lucky lady whose dad's office was exactly on the procession path. Since then, I have discovered that parades are not particularly exciting for grownups; they quickly become rather dull. For the children parades, though, are where it's at. So take your small children out and wave at the firefighters to their heart's content.
8. Create a rainy day schedule. Although most of the nation is hotter than blue blazes on the fourth, there are areas where rain is quite likely. That does not mean, however, you have to stay indoors. Rather of missing that rain or shine procession, why not stock-up on red white and blue umbrellas just in case and strike the parade path in fashion?
9. Get a cocktail, or several. Right now, I have a guy in my house delivering my new microwave. He claims to be former Army and prefers to celebrate the 4th by getting quite, quite intoxicated. Although I personally don't approve of this, let's acknowledge that it's actually a top 10 method to honor the day.
10. Head straight ahead from base. Every base deserving of its value hosts some kind of 4th of July celebration. And they may be very fun if you can tolerate the heat and the throngs. Though most of them finish with fireworks, you're guaranteed to find everything from free concerts for the grownups to kid jump houses.
