Six days prior, her mother Louella, who was buried on Saturday at a memorial garden in the central Philippine city of Cebu, passed from an aneurysm on June 23 following a coma.

Someone contacted Chiu around the third week of June to let her know about her mother, who had split from her husband, William Chiu Jr, while the actress was still a baby.
Later on, Louella got a crippling condition in her legs and knees and found she could not walk. When Louella, who had advised them not to get in touch with her relatives, passed out, the persons tending to her told Chiu about her mother, who was scheduled for surgery.
William told reporters on June 27: "She would arrive early dawn and return to Manila in the morning for work and back again here in Cebu." From Manila, Cebu City is around forty-five minutes by airplane.)
He said that his daughter, who he had a five-year misunderstanding about family matters, would look after her mother, who was then in the intensive care unit, and urged her to be brave, get well and live for her family.
Chiu had been in the headlines in the more recent weeks following her alleged tiff with the dashing heartthrob Gerald Anderson, her former boyfriend, who had covertly begun a sexual relationship with her former closest friend and confidante Majah Salvador.
Although Chiu and Salvador have not been on speaking terms recently, they have had to collaborate on some initiatives.
Chinese-filipino Chiu had lived in Cebu City until relocating to Manila in 2006 for the "Pinoy Big Brother". Originally the first runner-up in "Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition," she is currently contracted artist with ABS-CBN's Star Magic.
Her father said Chiu was depressed that the last days she spent with her mother were at the hospital, but she has been trying to be strong for the family, her supporters, and for all the people who help her.
Chiu and her older sister Lakam traveled for Thailand last Wednesday; actress had to shoot a commercial in line with a contract she signed two years ago, and returned early Saturday in time for the burial.
