A photographer followed my family and myself for over six hours in New York City as we walked, ate dinner, and took our three-year-old daughter to the movies. TMZ and The Daily Mail revealed the photographs, titled "Scarlett Johansson and Ex-Husband Co-Parenting While Christmas Shopping," for public access.
This may seem like a harmless photo opportunity, a result of fame, but I disagree. Although my career and temperament make me famous, my family and I are private citizens. We are not zoo animals that can be photographed. We have the same right to privacy as any other family. We have the right to live in the present with our children without always worrying that nefarious persons are photographing their every action.
This type of privacy invasion makes my family feel watched and harassed. TMZ and The Daily Mail publish unwanted photos of parents and children daily. I'm coming out to alert the public that images like these are taken without my authority as a parent; my family and I are being followed, stalked, and photographed by folks who hide in the shadows, many of whom have criminal past.
I am publicly urging that TMZ sign the No Kids Policy, for which I have long campaigned, and I am also calling on sites such as the Daily Mail to cease publishing images of parents and their children acquired without their knowledge, faces blurred or not blurred. All parents deserve to be free from stalking, harassment, and exploitation.

I hope readers realize that although these photos may be readily absorbed and forgotten as part of the 24-hour news cycle, the unpleasant and murky procedure by which they are gathered has long-term psychological effects on people they spotlight. In this day and age, when we are all arguing the relevance of humanity and respect, I humbly beg that this problem be explored as well.
