The initial Restaurant Week was established by Tim Zagat and Joe Baum in 1992 during the Democratic Convention held in New York July 13th to the 16th. The Restaurant Week was created to attract and please customers, usually journalists, searching for nice and reasonable eating alternatives across the city.
The week-long event was such a success that over time it extended from one week to four weeks-long and became a countrywide sensation. Since 2000, the winter version has also been introduced spanning 4 weeks as well.
It is a beloved event for New Yorkers and foreigners alike, allowing guests to enjoy some of the top restaurants in New York at affordable pricing!
Nyc Restaurant Week - When Is It Happening?
NYC has 2 Restaurant Weeks over the year, the Winter one from mid-January to mid-February, and the Summer one from mid-July to mid-August. Some of the greatest NYC restaurants participate every year in this event offering prix-fixe menus for their lunches/brunches and evenings. Prices are determined for each Restaurant Week and they may fluctuate. In recent years, we have seen Lunch Deals going from $25 to $35 (typically a two-course lunch) and Dinner Deals moving from $39 to $45 (normally two-course dinner) and $59 to $65 (for three-course supper). Please note that refreshments are not included in the stated costs. Tips (gratuity) and Taxes are additional as well.
Who Participates And Where To Book
To remain up to date on participating restaurants and to reserve your table visit the official NYC Restaurant Week website. Each edition has a varied list of participating locations, but, you can rest confident there are always some of the best-known restaurants in the mix spanning all the different cuisines.
