The Philadelphia Eagles' 26-18 victory over the Washington Commanders has them soaring to the top of the NFC East.

Philadelphia completed the task to move to 8-2 on the season, despite the fact that it wasn't nice. The Commanders' hopes of winning the division are starting to wane as they fell to 7–4. Instead of a contest for first place, Thursday night appeared to be a tribute to the "NFC Least."

How Many Times Have The Commanders Beat The Eagles

Saquon Barkley kept up his impressive play, running for 146 yards and scoring two touchdowns while just missing a third. The Eagles will follow Barkley's lead, if it wasn't obvious by now. The Eagles are in the midst of a playoff run, but if they want to make an impression in January and February, they will need to improve.

Although they were unable to get anything going on Thursday night, the upstart Commanders were able to mostly match up with a much more experienced opponent. Although Rome wasn't created overnight, the Commanders are making rapid progress in a field where things take a very long time.

Here is a summary of what happened on Thursday night.

The commanders' attempt at an onside kick fails.

Dallas Goedert can quickly regain the magic foot, thus Zane Gonzalez does not have it. Now that it's over, the Eagles will do everything in their power to maintain their lead in the NFC East.

Updated Commanders-Eagles score: Zach Ertz keeps Washington in the game

The drapes are partially drawn, but not completely. Against his old club, Ertz reaches the end zone and grabs the Octopus' two-point convert to trim the Eagles' advantage to eight. Washington has to recover an onside kick with just 28 seconds remaining in order to have a shot. Commanders 18, Eagles 26.

Commanders-Eagles score update: Dagger TD from Saquon Barkley

That was swift. Barkley runs 39 yards and scores his second touchdown in the closing 20 seconds. It's Washington's curtains. Commanders 10; Eagles 26.

Reed Blankenship intercepted Jayden Daniels.

Daniels throws an intercept to Blankenship, and the Commanders are now totally off the hook. The rest of the time, Philly may unwind and chew the clock.

Saquon Barkley scores for the Commanders-Eagles

This may have been put on hold by Saquon Barkley. With 4:58 remaining, he sprints in from 23 yards out to put Philadelphia ahead 19-10. On this drive, Dallas Goedert made the key 31-yard catch, but teammate tight end Grant Calcaterra saved him after he almost fumbled. It will take a lot of work to have a shot in this one after Washington's unsuccessful fourth-down attempt. Commanders 10, Eagles 19.

Washington becomes combative but fails on the fourth down.

Washington decided to throw the dice and go for it on fourth down when they had the chance to grab the lead. Jayden Daniels is running out of space on the sidelines as the play is blown apart in the backfield.

Commanders-Eagles score update: Jake Elliott misses an extra point, but Philly takes the lead with a touchdown.

At last, the Eagles have made a breakthrough. With 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Jalen Hurts discovers pay dirt. Once again, the patented "Tush Push," sometimes known as the "Brotherly Shove," does the job well. But that moment of celebration is fleeting. Jake Elliott pulls the extra point wide left, continuing his night of forgetting. Despite being down, Washington may be feeling good right now since these things usually come back to bother them. Commanders 10, Eagles 12.

Third-quarter conclusion: Washington continues to lead going into the last frame

As another hectic quarter draws to a close, not much has changed. The Eagles' offensive remains a waste of space, and the Commanders are still leading by four points.
