With OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, Facebook parent Meta's Meta AI, and Microsoft's Copilot intensifying rivalry, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI on August 14 unveiled a new version of its AI chatbot Grok with among other things pictures generation.
Grok is accessible to all X Premium and X Premium+, subscription levels of X, the Musk-owned social network once known as Twitter.
X.AI noted in a weblog that members will have access to two new models: Grok-2 and Grok-2 small, both of which are presently beta only on X.
Accessible from the Grok tab in the X app, Grok-2 will be the flagship artificial intelligence assistant Advanced text and vision understanding capabilities of the chatbot will combine real-time X platform data integration.
Grok-2 have a rebuilt UI and will be able to create photos on the X platform.
xAI says it is testing Black Forest Labs' text-to---image AI model Flux.1 to increase Grok's capabilities on X. Former Stability developers turned entrepreneurs in artificial intelligence started Black Forest Labs.AI.
"Comparatively to its predecessor, Grok-2 is more intuitive, steerable, and flexible across a wide range of tasks, whether you're seeking answers, collaborating on writing, or solving coding tasks" xAI noted in a blogpost.
xAI claims it brought an early Grok-2 variant under the name "sus-column-r" into the LMSYS chatbot field, a widely used benchmark for competitive languages. Regarding its overall Elo ranking on the LMSYS scoreboard, the AI model is beating both Claude and GPT-4.
Designed from chess, Elo score gauges the relative strengths of big language models.
These models, according to the company, will also assist with a variety of AI-driven X capabilities including greater search capabilities, deeper insights on posts and better reply functionality.
xAI intends to later this month distribute both models to developers using its enterprise API platform. " Soon, we will release a preview of multimodal understanding as a core part of the Grok experience on X and API," the company claimed.
In July 2023 Musk launched xAI. From investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Saudi Arabian royal royal Alwaleed Bin Talal and Kingdom Holding in May 2024, it raised $6 billion in Series B money. Among other investors are Fidelity, Vy Capital, and Valor Equity Partners.
November saw the publication of the company's initial artificial intelligence model, Grok-1; subsequently, in March it published the Grok-1.5 model, which enhanced context length of 128,000 tokens and reasoning capacity.
XAI unveiled its first multimodal model Grok-1.5V a month later, which can handle a broad range of visual data including documents, diagrams, charts, screenshots, and pictures.
